For Employers Summer Jobs Service
This Employment Ontario program operates from April 1st to September 30th and services students between the ages of 15 and 30 who are planning to return to school in the fall.
This program assists eligible employers with the hiring of summer students by providing a $2.00 per hour wage subsidy.
Employer Flexibility
Employers are expected to meet the eligibility criteria for participation in the SJS program.
Employers must:
- place trainees on the company's payroll and provide the same employment terms, conditions and benefits as for all regular employees
- comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Employment Standards Act
- maintain appropriate WSIB or alternate workplace safety insurance coverage
- have adequate third party liability coverage
- comply with all applicable employment related provincial and federal employment statutes in respect of the Employee
- ensure Employees hired under the Program meet the following eligibility requirement:
- 15-30 years of age
- not currently employed by the Employer (Exception: student whose part-time job will be increased to full-time)
- planning to return to full-time school in the fall of this year
- eligible to work in Canada
Employers must not:
- hire his or her spouse, sibling or child as a trainee
- be receiving government funds from any other source for the same training placement
- use trainees or students to displace existing staff, or replace staff who are on lay-off

PLEASE NOTE:
All Summer Jobs Service subsidies, for 2013, have been allocated to employers, in the counties of Stormont and Dundas. We would be happy to accept your application and add you to our waiting list. Should subsidies become available this Summer, we will contact you.

Step 1 – Complete SJS Employer Registration and Contract and submit to the Student Centre either by fax, in person, mail or e-mail.
Step 2 – Upon hiring student(s), please have each student complete the SJS Participant Information form and return to us (within 10 business days) via fax, in person, mail or e-mail.
Step 3 – Before the student(s) last day of work and/or October 5th of this year, please submit the SJS Employer Claim Form as well as the Employer Satisfaction Survey and Client Service Delivery Evaluation by fax, in person, mail or e-mail. If you are unable to obtain student signature, you may MUST provide proof of payroll in order to process subsidy payment.
