Finding a job requires more than luck. This workshop assists you in identifying the hidden job market and provides you with strategies to find work. You also familiarize yourself with resources that will assist you in conducting an effective job search.

This workshop is designed to give you the tools necessary to be successful in keeping your job and adopting behaviours that reflect a positive attitude about yourself and your work. You will learn what employers look for in a successful employee, tips to handle conflict at work and valuable problem-solving skills.

SHARE

SHARE is a network of unemployed mature workers aged 40 and over, who are registered with Job Zone d'emploi. They get together on a weekly basis to share job opportunities, job search experiences and tips. They support each other, recognizing that their skills, experience, maturity, life skills, and reliability are invaluable to finding employment.

Networking business cards give you the opportunity to provide critical career and contact information to people you meet in social and professional situations. This workshop provides templates and examples to get you started.

Information Interview – Getting Inside Information

An information interview involves talking with people who are currently working in your field of interest in order to gain a better understanding of that particular occupation or industry – and to build a network of contacts in that field. This workshop provides resources and guidelines on how to prepare, schedule, question, express thanks , follow-up and keep in touch with your interviewer.

Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship

This workshop provides an overview of the four sectors of trades, general ideas of what is needed to qualify as an apprentice, the benefits of apprenticeship, what is the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)?

Internet and E-mail Orientation

Orientation to job searching on the internet includes a brief overview of terms, navigation tools, and web sites (specifically the Service Canada job bank). Orientation to e-mail includes setting up a Hotmail account, sending and receiving e-mail and attachments.

Portfolio

If you are interested in standing out from the crowd of other job seekers, then - CREATE A PORTFOLIO! A Portfolio gives employers a complete picture of who you are - and what you have the potential to become. This workshop will guide you in creating a professional portfolio.
