Job Overview
WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?
You will:
• Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
• Provide maintenance services under the general supervision of the Park Ranger and Assistant Parks Operations Manager.
• Support customer service initiatives and the St. Lawrence Parks Commission mandate to deliver excellent customer service.
• Provide for the safety of the public and staff.

Required Skills/Experience
HOW DO I QUALIFY?
MANDATORY:
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
• A willingness to work variable shifts including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
• Knowledge of grounds and buildings maintenance, general construction, trails maintenance and you possess working knowledge of semi-skilled tasks usually associated with skilled trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical.
• Knowledge of and the ability to operate, maintain and perform minor repairs to a variety of light powered equipment (e.g., chainsaws, brush cutters, lawnmowers, utility terrain vehicles (UTV), tractors and small hand tools, etc.).
• Experience and willingness to perform janitorial duties, e.g., cleaning washrooms.
• The ability and willingness to acquire a good working knowledge of park operations (day-use area and/or campground).
• The ability to learn and follow policies and procedures.
• The ability to promote, foster and support a safe working environment for all staff that includes working in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, its regulations, and the Employer’s occupational health and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
You have:
• Written and verbal communication and customer service skills to deal effectively with staff and the public.
LEADERSHIP AND JUDGMENT SKILLS
You have:
• Demonstrated group leadership and interpersonal skills to provide direction and guidance to staff on processes, policies, procedures, and maintenance tasks.
• Integrity and the ability to adapt to different situations and apply judgement to a crisis situation to determine the appropriate course of action.
OTHER SKILLS
You have:
• The ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including cleaning, grounds keeping, moving picnic tables, lifting garbage cans, bags of wood and ice.
• Organizational skills to deal with competing demands.
