Position Details
Job Overview
- Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
- Assist the Program Coordinator with the development, coordination and delivery of cultural and heritage programming, including tours, educational programs, special events and living history demonstrations.
- Support the research, development and implementation of interpretive programs and activities.
- Provide day-to-day guidance to seasonal staff and act as an alternate team lead when required.
- Participate in demonstrations and living history programming.
- Assist with program scheduling, staff placement and monitoring the quality of program delivery.
- Conduct research and prepare written summaries or resource materials to support programming and respond to visitor inquiries.
- Build relationships with community groups, partners and stakeholders to support cultural and heritage initiatives.
- Assist with event planning, program set-up and other operational needs.
- Help maintain assigned buildings, equipment and supplies, including basic inventories and reporting damage or loss.
- Ensure a safe environment for visitors and staff by following all health and safety procedures.
Work Schedule:
Required Skills/Experience
- Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s Licence.
- Satisfactory Enhanced Screening including Police Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Knowledge of cultural heritage, living history interpretation or public history programming.
- Experience supporting or delivering educational programs, tours, demonstrations or special events.
- Understanding of historical interpretation methods, storytelling and living history techniques.
- Experience participating in or supporting cultural, historical or community programming.
- Knowledge of Indigenous communities, groups, associations, and organizations in Eastern Ontario.
- Knowledge of Indigenous history and culture in Eastern Ontario and Canada.
- Strong verbal communication and public speaking skills.
- Written communication skills to prepare research summaries and program outlines.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Research skills to support the development of historical or cultural programming.
