Job Overview
WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?
You will:
• Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
• Assist management with opening and closing store operations as required
• Oversee and ensure completion of daily administrative tasks and paperwork
• Operate point-of-sale systems and registration platforms efficiently
• Handle cash transactions, process refunds, and manage discount sales
• Verify and reconcile daily cash floats for staff
• Prepare and process daily cash count sheets and shift summaries (daily/weekly)
• Provide exceptional customer service and support customer service training for students
• Ensure all staff follow store procedures and protocols consistently
• Open and close registration systems and store premises
• Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of the store, including washrooms and surrounding exterior areas
• Sell and upsell merchandise, programs, and food services to individuals and larger groups
• Create and maintain attractive in-store and window displays
• Verify store inventory levels and communicate regularly with management/retail team (daily/weekly)
• Ensure accurate cash handling and register operations
• Maintain accurate cash floats and perform cash breakdowns in registers
• Reconcile daily/weekly shift summaries and assist with bank deposits
• Provide mentorship, training, and basic guidance to student staff members
• Assist with special events and support other campgrounds a directed by the Parks management team
Required Skills/Experience
HOW DO I QUALIFY?
MANDATORY:
• Valid class G drivers’ licence
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when required
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in merchandising, marketing, or relevant education/training.
• Ability to motivate
• Supervisory experience
SUPERVISORY, LEADERSHIP & COMMUNICATION:
• Interpersonal skills to maintain a positive team environment and strong working relationships with staff and customers.
• Communication skills (oral and written) to prepare reports and correspondence related to retail and camping sales, and to respond to customer service issues.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a high-functioning team member.
• Ability to work safely in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act worker responsibilities.
• Respond to visitor issues and needs and solve problems according to policies and standard operating procedures
COMPUTER SKILLS:
• Ability to sell merchandise, operate computers, and network point-of-sale equipment.
• Handle cash with a high degree of accuracy.
JUDGMENT, ORGANIZATIONAL AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS:
• Prioritization and multitasking skills to work under pressure.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills to review sales reports, provide change, count cash floats, balance shift summaries, and identify errors related to sales.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and on schedule.
• Ability to assess situations and make informed decisions to resolve issues while adhering to company policies and procedures.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in cash handling, inventory management, and documentation.
• Capacity to manage competing demands and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines and objectives.
