Better Jobs Ontario (BJO) helps those laid off or part of a low-income household get trained for an in-demand job, with financial support to make it possible. We'll help you figure out if it's the right fit.
Who can apply?
Everyone's situation is different, and the only way to know for sure is a quick chat with us. Generally, Better Jobs Ontario may be a fit if you:
- Have been laid off and aren't working (or are working a temporary job just to get by), or
- Have been unemployed for 12 weeks or longer and are part of a low-income household
- Are an Ontario resident and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
Already getting assistance?
You can still apply if you receive Employment Insurance (EI), Ontario Works (OW), or the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).

Better Jobs Ontario itself provides funding to you. It is financial support, not a student loan like OSAP.
You may qualify for up to $28,000 for training of one year or less, or up to $35,000 for programs of one to two years. The exact amount is based on your needs and available funding.
Yes. You can still apply while receiving EI, Ontario Works, or ODSP.
Better Jobs Ontario funds programs that take two years or less to complete, including shorter micro-credential and certificate programs. It's built to get you back to work quickly.
