Position Details

Job Overview

* Perform a variety of manual work tasks to support Fort Henry’s range of Special Events;
* Work with the Events Team to construct and assemble sets and scenes using woodworking and carpentry skills for Fort Fright event;
* Restore aesthetics of set pieces and props;
* Paint and finish sets by using a range of materials and painting techniques to create eerie and immersive environments for Fort Fright;
* Collaborate closely with a creative team to bring visions to life;
* Prioritize safety in set construction, ensuring a secure environment for all;
* Work efficiently to meet deadlines, maintain sets, and contribute to the success of Fort Fright's thrilling experience;
* Work outside in various weather conditions;
* Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
Work Schedule: 

Required Skills/Experience

* Experience performing carpentry, decorative and painting tasks;
* Experience using various hand tools and power tools;
* The ability to perform maintenance and repairs on sets and displays;
* Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario and the ability to work in compliance with all health and safety regulations and the use of proper personal protective equipment.
* Good communication skills to work with and deliver excellent customer services to staff, the public and contractors.
* The ability to follow oral and written instructions.
* The ability to work alone or in a team environment;
* The ability to work seamlessly with diverse team members to achieve common goals;
* The ability to exhibit critical thinking and creativity in resolving construction challenges;
* The ability to provide general supervision or lead a small team, completing a detailed task list.
* The physical ability to safely perform the duties associated with the construction and set up of scenes or other temporary installations for a large-scale event.
* The ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
* The ability to work in various weather conditions.
