Position Details

Job Overview

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?

You will:

Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
Under the direction of the Manager, Parks and Recreational Facilities, the position is responsible to plan and manage all operations, marketing and sales at Crysler Park Marina and Beach.
Participate in business marketing, planning, and analysis, ensuring financial profitability and
   business growth for the business unit, consistent with the overall St. Lawrence Parks Commission
   corporate plans. 
Co-ordinate and promote boater association activities including scheduling, staffing of facilities, etc., maintaining close personal contact with organizers.
Operate store to maximize sales and profit by determining stock requirements, placing orders, maintaining inventory control, merchandising goods. Assist with the development and implementation of retail strategies to achieve sales targets and maximum profitability.
Performs group leadership responsibilities including assigning work, establishing performance goals and standards, ensuring work is completed and to standards, bringing staff performance issues or misconduct to the attention of supervision, and provide technical input to the selection and evaluation processes.
Monitor quality, cleanliness, and level of service for all areas of the marina, store, pavilion, food service and park area.
Foster a positive and supportive teamwork spirit among staff, volunteers, and boaters at the marina and other divisions, promoting leadership, teamwork, and empowerment among staff as a means of ensuring high boater satisfaction, quality services and a consistently harmonious work environment.
Develop policies and contractual agreements for administration of special functions, concessionaire co-ordination, and partnership ventures.
Supervise and ensure policies and procedures for cash handling, revenue and bank deposits, fee and price setting, discount and promotions are followed, including gaining prior approvals for all pricing decisions and any assignment of overtime.

Required Skills/Experience

HOW DO I QUALIFY?

MANDATORY:

Standard Class ‘G’ Drivers Licence.
Proficiency in English.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when required.


KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Marina management, business planning, marketing, tourism development technique and emerging Industry best practices in the areas of Marina operations to ensure the effective implementation and delivery of strategic business plan, sales/marketing strategies, and services within the business unit.
Administrative and financial management to coordinate and validate several programs and activities, and to administer the business plan in a fiscally responsible manner.
Trade show and sales outreach initiatives to maintain and grow docking customer base.
Specific legislation related to the safe operation of the Marina, such as TSSA fuel facility management, ISPS transport Canada, Clean Marine program, Alcohol and Gaming regulation membership with OMOA as well as knowledge of the Occupation Health and Safety Act and regulations. 
     

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Advanced written and oral communication skills to prepare various material and presentations
  related to the management of the business unit. 
Negotiation and relationship management skills, to elicit cooperation and participation from Boaters and visitors in meeting compliance and regulatory requirements for safe operation of the Marina.
Influencing and advisory skills to keep management abreast of recommendations concerning Additional work and/or changes in work methods.
Advise management on budget, expenditures, trends, and impact of constraints.
Interpersonal skills to liaise with other marinas, institutions, departments, and agencies.


COMPUTER SKILLS:

You know how to use computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, data entry and retrieval, presentations, and Internet applications.

JUDGMENT, ORGANIZATIONAL AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS:

Develop, monitor, and ensure that quality service, procedures, equipment, and other standards are achieved; traffic flow monitored to ensure maximum dock use; resolves transient boater concerns. 
Reasoning and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot problems and resolve client complaints/issues.
Financial planning skills to purchase supplies and services in the most cost-effective manner and in retail to ensure sales and maximize returns.
Analytical skills to assess workload demands and operational capabilities by determining priorities, scheduling work, and assigning tasks to subordinates. 
Ability to be organized and able to provide daily records, statistics, and operation reports that capture sales, productivity, labour costs, and inventories etc.




LEADERSHIP, PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH SKILLS:

Provides leadership, motivation, and direction to staff on day-to-day activities.
Prepares staffing plans, participates in hiring process, assigns work, manages performance up to the point of disciplinary measures. 
Conducts performance reviews on all staff for managers sign off. 
Coordinates business unit specific training and development.
Develops and manages the overall Marina operating budget in consultation with the Division Manager, ensuring an effective delivery of services and budget control, allocating resources within the Marina in the most effective and productive manner.
Prepares and manages the annual and long-range capital project budget.
Prepares monthly reviews and other financial statements and audits as required.
Assists in developing strategies for staffing constraints, maximizing program effectiveness, and administer budget when approved.
Manages the daily cash financial system by ensuring that all procedures are followed for proper cash handling.
Working closely with Financial Services to ensure that all paperwork meets audit standards and is completed in an efficient and accurate manner. 
Monitors financial performance against budget targets of the operations and makes necessary recommendations and implements changes as required.
Provides regular information updates on activities and performance of Marina.
