Since 1956, Morbern has been creating breakthroughs in the performance fabric industry. In addition to working directly with customers, Morbern partners with universities and other organizations for research and development projects that advance manufacturing and product capabilities. Recent work includes projects with the National Research Council in Ottawa, Queen’s University and University of Toronto.Job Purpose:We are seeking a supervisor to lead and support our production operations. This position reports to the Shift/Department Manager and is responsible for overseeing the manufacturing process in their designated areas—from raw materials to finished goods—ensuring that safety, quality, and efficiency standards are met. The supervisor will lead personnel, manage resources, and implement and maintain manufacturing and engineering initiatives. Responsibilities and Accountabilities:Health & Safety

• Promote and ensure a safe work environment through adherence to OH&S policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and incident investigations.
• Reinforce safe work practices and ensure personal protective equipment (PPE) is communicated to employees and is followed.
• Encourage proactive incident reporting and address concerns promptly.
• Maintain a clean and organized workplace using 5S principles.

Quality & Process Control

• Understand and uphold quality standards in the department.
• Audit operators work practices and ensure adherence to standard procedures.
• Investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate on root cause analysis and reduce rework or scrap.
• Release production samples for inspection and follow product guidelines.
• Review LH reports for your respective shift and seek corrective actions.

Operational Excellence

• Monitor shift operations to meet production schedules, minimize downtime, and manage WIP effectively.
• Deploy manpower and resources efficiently to support schedule adherence and reduce labor cost per unit.
• Analyze downtime and losses, identify trends, and execute improvement plans.
• Support and drive Lean Manufacturing practices, including SMED and continuous improvement initiatives.

People Management

• Supervise, coach, and develop production team members.
• Manage attendance, breaks, shift transitions, and performance.
• Enforce company policies and administer discipline when needed.
• Foster a positive and engaged team culture.
• Support recruitment, training, and succession planning within the department.

Communication & Reporting

• Ensure effective shift handoffs and transparent communication of production status, issues, and updates.
• Report daily KPIs and highlight variances to targets.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Maintenance, and Supply departments to resolve production issues.

Compliance & Administration

• Understand and apply the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Ensure safety and security protocols are upheld at all times.
• Support departmental audits and keep guidelines/documentation current.

Education:

• Grade 12, technical diploma
• Training in root cause analysis and 8D or similar processes
• Training in Lean Techniques, SMED and 5S

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Proven success in implementing continuous improvement and lean practices.
• Ability to perform root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans.
• Familiarity with unionized work environments and collective agreements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel);
• Available to work rotating shifts, including weekends if required.
