Position Details

Job Overview

HAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?

  • You will assist with the research, planning, co-ordination, and implementation of Black History programming at Upper Canada Village by:
  • Playing a lead role in implementing, evaluating, developing, co-ordinating, and delivering Black History programming
  • Presenting information in a knowledgeable and friendly manner while wearing historical costume as required and performing various tasks to represent 19th century lifestyles
  • Preparing and updating related interpretive and programming resources and materials
  • Evaluating existing Black History programs, making recommendations for improvements and/or proposals for new programs
  • You will embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.

Work Schedule: 
36.25hr/wk

Required Skills/Experience

HOW DO I QUALIFY?

MANDATORY:

  • Conditional upon successful candidate being granted required security clearance for this position (Vulnerable Sector check).

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

You have knowledge or are able to acquire the knowledge of

  • 19th century Canadian history
  • Black History in Canada
  • Public programming in a museum setting
  • Activities related to 19th century lifestyles (cooking, horticulture, agriculture, hand work, historical trades, etc)
  • Black communities, groups, associations, organizations in Eastern Ontario
  • Customer service best practice

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

You have:

  • You have excellent oral communication skills to engage guests, deliver information in an entertaining manner with enthusiasm and high energy, and respond effectively to customer questions and concerns.
  • Ability to communicate to small and large groups
  • Ability to communicate to a wide range of participants (age, language, background, ability)

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Ability to use a computer for common administrative tasks such as word processing, emails, internet searches

LEADERSHIP, PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH SKILLS:

You have:

  • Ability to perform research and synthesize findings for public presentation
  • Ability to perform a range of support and administrative tasks
  • Ability to provide leadership and operate as a successful team member
  • Ability to conduct historical research to support and enhance existing programming and new initiatives.
